creative craft in the heart of home

In these challenging times of self-distancing, we’re overdue some fun for you and your family. The following is a list you could call a home care package to do some creative craftwork in the heart of your home… And they’re FREE.

🏠Being home alone in a whole new way…

If you’re feeling stressed or worried right now, you’re not alone.

My first wet season in the Top End outback was as remote as you can get. We were flooded in for weeks and had to use a boat to cruise past crocodiles to meet the food trucks while working in Kakadu National Park. When I worked on the remote coast, we had to wait for food to arrive on the monthly barge. We’ve also suffered through cyclones and survived!

Each year, with the improvement of roads and other services, our skills for living this kind of lifestyle that is now called social distancing for WFH (Working from Home) is fine-tuned.

So…

Here’s a list of things that might amuse you during this time. Best of all, most of them are FREE. All it costs is some time, and the willingness to be a little creative.

Doing the Digital Home Craft by starting small…

🏠Start that digital course you’ve always wanted, there’s a tonne for free out there.

🏠Try a digital yoga or meditation class to beat back the stress.

🏠 Improve your home chef skills in a baking lesson courtesy of YouTube. It’s amazing what you can turn into flour these days for baking and homemade face masks.

Going one crafty step bigger beyond the digital…

🏠Why not redecorate the house like it’s Christmas—you’ll beat the end of year rush!

🏠Recycle some of those old glittery decorations to make into something new, or just as an excuse to have a secluded house party.

🏠Participate in the ultimate puzzle….unravelling all those Christmas lights from last year that you keep putting off. Or what about matching all those pairs of odd socks that live in the bottom of the sock drawer. And with those odd socks, you could make sock puppets or fancy new pot plants holders??? Moving along…

🏠Finish that creative project that’s been hiding in the back of the cupboard. If it’s a craft cupboard, imagine all those goodies you’ll find to help you.

🏠Do a crazy repaint using whatever bits of paint you have leftover in the shed or use left scrap material and homemade glue to do a makeover on that kitchen chair no one sits on. Then put it by the front door as part of a new plan to redecorate the homefront by creating a spot where your family will take their boots off. I promise you they’ll sit on that chair there.

🏠Re-arrange the furniture in a room—the bonus is you’ll get a home workout at the same time. The experts say to make each section a theme, like a home alone corner because we all might need that bit of space also known as the home office. What about creating a fancy homestay experience. While you’re at it, create an amazing home gallery of all those cleverly curated crafts you’re about to create. (Say that three times real fast!) It’s your place, go big or go stay home!

🏠Let’s combine the digital into a new home plan from the heart…

🏠Create a virtual vision board as a screen saver for your PC, or make one with the family from magazines lying around to stick on the fridge.

🏠Design yourself a home logo, then get those handy little home helpers to smash up all those odd bits of crockery in the cupboard to make a mosaic that’ll match that crazy painted chair haunting the home’s grand entrance.

🏠Digitally declutter your phone. Download those photos and back them up. Delete old text messages and old Apps you never use to create more storage which will also increase phone speed. It could probably do with a physical clean too.

🏠Pull out all those printed photos and albums you haven’t looked at in years from that cupboard—the one where that leftover craft project is hiding. Load all those images into a digital playlist for safe-keeping. Then, create a home movie explaining all those images of a certain event as a digital memoir to share with those loved ones on Facebook. It’ll give HOME PAGE new meaning.

🏠Home truly is all about the heart.

🏠I’ve unlocked my private HOME board on Pinterest that has loads of ideas if you’re looking for some inspiration when it comes to making something from nothing.

I’m all for recycling things from around the house like the character, Kat in The ART OF DUST. She’s famous for her home makeovers in her hometown of Elsie Creek.

🏠HOME is the recurring theme of my stories that have a lot of heart.  To me, HOME is a place where the many levels of love are found within its walls, from friends, family, and your one true love. It’s where you, your children, and grandchildren create all that wonderful craftwork that helps turn a place into a HOME.

So, what are you waiting for? Feel free to share your creative projects with me on Facebook, Instagram. Most of all have fun being creative in your craft at HOME.🏠
