The Power of the Playlist

Discover how powerful a playlist can be, how to name a playlist and the types of playlists you can create to suit you.

It was a question raised in a Facebook group on what people do to elevate the mood and to momentarily escape while many of us are under this grey pandemic cloud.

My reply?

How about a new playlist to curve the panic!

A lot of lovely ladies within this group had no idea what a playlist was or how to access these playlists.

I’m so glad they were brave enough to ask! Technology, right? Changes in the blink of an eye. So ladies, dust off your stylish cordless headphones or charge up those noise-cancelling earbuds and read on…

So What Is A Playlist?

A playlist is a digital file that stores your music of choice, it’s like an online filing system kept on your phone, PC, tablet, or via the cloud.

For those rockers in the house, think of those large Compact Disc cases you loaded up with 50 CD’s then hit random to play those songs in the 80s or 90s.  Now it’s endless downloads with constant streaming options that pumps out music 24/7 without any need to take up boot space in the car anymore.

It’s also all about the music you want to play!

Other Non-Musical Playlists

Now, to really confuse you, playlists can also include:

Videos playlists of music like on YouTube.

But the other kinds of playlists can be about those goofballs doing crazy things with skateboards, or it can be that list of TED talks you’ve been trying to watch.

But you can also have playlists for:

🎥Movies

🎥Favourite actor/actress’s movies.

🎥The celebrity stalkers playlists of photos of their favourite actor (Er, say what?)

👕Playlist of wardrobe favourites—seriously, there is a Plaid shirt playlist day!

🧦What about odd-socks playlists day?

📺Netflix playlists.

🏈or anything really such as those favourite footy moments of the last decade playlist.

Why Music in playlists…

 Music is good for you!

Scientific studies claim that music is good for you after conducting many, many tests.

Music is good for moods, for the brain, as well as acting as a trigger for those feel-good moments and even the bad ones too.  Who hasn’t hit the music to wail at sad songs when recovering from a breakup.

It can also be an elevating trigger to help you work (out) or just work away or work in… I’ll stop.

How to Make A Playlist

Depending on who and how you are creating one, whether it’s YouTube, iTunes, or Spotify usually it starts with…

A song.

Then another song.

Then you’ll discover it ties into a theme.

Then you’ll have to work out how to name a playlist to suit those songs.

To add more songs, look at the recommendations provided by the online music provider like Spotify who creates daily listening playlists for you, so you’ll always be discovering new artists and new playlists to create from.

The length and styles of your playlists are based on your own individual freedom of creativity. So, really go for it. You can switch it up to suit your moods and moments at any time!

Playlists are made to be shared

As I write this post, with all that is going on in the world, I found drowning out the noise with music helped lift my mood.

Maybe this can work for you too.

Playlists are one of those things I create with the family to enjoy on our road trips.

I also adore making playlists for my stories where I’ll start a book’s playlist whiles it’s still a fresh novel idea (pun intended).

Then, as I get to know the characters and dive deeper into their story, I’ll hear a song that reminds me of a scene or a trait of their personality that shines through…

So let’s dance away the day with the release of this new playlist as a way to help you create and name your own playlist, and let’s see what we can play together tomorrow. That is the power of the playlist, people! Connection.

Do you have a favourite playlist? I’m always looking for new music, so feel free to share by contacting me.
