all about the romantic side of a cat-and-mouse-chase in stories

Most of us enjoy the classic cat-and-mouse chases in stories. We may have grown up watching those scenes of Tom and Jerry on TV or in the movies that really got the adrenalin pumping.

To list just a few of the popular movie classics within this thrilling action genre, we have:

The Matrix
Bourne Identity
The Fugitive
John Wick series
Speed (Keanu, again!)
Catch me if you can

They all have the same element of a constant pursuit, near captures, and repeated escapes where the hero/heroine is trying to get away and beat the bad guy.

A cat-and-mouse chase that’s kinda romantic

Let’s look at the movie Speed. Where we meet a young Sandra Bullock catching the bus to work, because she’d lost her driver’s licence for speeding. Love it.

But they’d rigged her bus to explode!

So, within these most extraordinary of circumstances, she meets our hero, Keanu.

But what makes Speed so good, even if some scenes make you roll your eyes at a bus jumping the highway, is the strength of the heroine. She saved all the other passengers on the bus by getting into the driver’s seat. As well as winning her man in some hot on-screen kisses too.

This character was just an ordinary woman, thrown into unusual circumstances.

It’s the same for my upcoming release Run Beautiful Run, where we meet the lonely barmaid, Maddison, who is suddenly thrown into unusual circumstances.

Except she makes a promise.

A promise she intends to keep, even if she is a total fish out of water, thrown into a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across the country. Maddison must flee from the bad guys, as she tries to keep her promise, to spectacularly meet our heroine in the classic opposites attract romantic trope.

Oh, and did I mention the hero is a gorgeous cattleman?!
