Xmas in July is a time to brush up on your elfie skills, to prepare on how to spruce, trim, trap and wrap the perfect Christmas tree by getting in early—or not. But have you ever wondered why they ever reined over Christmas in July?
*Warning, poor puns are expected – to which I blame the egg-nog.
So who created the ideer for a mid-year Santa Claus?
Southern Living claims they sleighed it first with a girls mid-summer camp back in the late 1930s
Wait, there’s myrrh, coz they made a movie, ‘Christmas in July’ in the 1940s, and with Hallmark creating their 2020 version.
Yet, back in the 1800s, there was a French opera about Christmas in July. Or was it children practising carols back in July where those little puddings sang and jingled some bells…
Of course, Bon Bon’s were cracked opened when the marketers got involved in WWII to promote mid-year Greeting cards and the postal services. It’s a tradition that has since stuck like left-over wrapping paper found on Boxing Day.
The outback snow drill for a July Xmas
In Australia, July is the ho-ho of winter where many will hike North to escape and toss their Christmas stockings aside to bake like snowmen on the beach.
But, fir those of us up North, not the north pole north, but in the outback, we don’t have snow unless its outback snow as mentioned in CAKED IN DUST.
But we do have over 97 varieties of native mistletoe to kiss under! Oh, deer.
Many are working on their naughty & nice lists early
During the time of COVID, Christmas in July has become a beacon of hope for many.
In an article from Pinterest, it claims many were planning and crafting their Christmas in April.
With so many events cancelled because of this virus, it’s easy to understand why we need something to look forward to. Consider this as therapeutic for many to get Santa-mental as they plan their blitzing end of the year party event. (*raises hand)
Unwrapping the Cover
So, having a final sleigh, it’s the perfect time to unwrap the cover for BOOK IV of the Elsie Creek Series, XMAS DUST that’s about…
A sassy pilot. A cranky cattleman. And a storm that threatens to ruin everything…
The rebel without a clause is the sassy bush pilot, Monet, who we meet in CAKED IN DUST. The grinch is the cranky cattleman, Tim, who we meet in DIAMOND IN THE DUST. Together, these two sugarplums are fun and frosty as they try to avoid each other and Christmas!
Let me add this, that XMAS DUST has done a tour of the Awards ceremonies since it went live!
